EU Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen has warned Russia of “massive economic and financial sanctions” if it attacks Ukraine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Speaking via a video link to the World Economic Forum, Ursula von der Leyen acknowledged last week’s diplomatic commitments between Russia and Western countries on European security agreements.<\/p>\n

“If the situation worsens, if there is a further attack on Ukraine’s territorial integrity, we will respond with massive economic and financial sanctions,” von der Leyen warned.<\/p>\n

Von der Leyen also rejected “Russian attempts to divide Europe”, saying: “We will not return to an old logic of competition and spheres of influence, where whole countries were treated as property or backyards.”<\/p>\n
