An American F35 crashed into the deck of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier in the South China Sea, injuring seven people. The pilot managed to jump in time with the catapult, but he too was injured although his condition appears to be stable. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
6 people on the deck were also injured. The cause of what was described by US authorities as a “flight accident” is under investigation. A spokesman for the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet in Japan, Mark Langford, said the damage to the warship was minimal and it has resumed operation as normal.<\/p>\n
This is the first collision of an F35, the US Navy variant of the stealth fighter aircraft with a single engine, designed for operations outside aircraft carriers.<\/p>\n
The day before, China sent 39 fighter jets into the area, raising tensions with Taiwan again.<\/p>\n
The Taiwan Air Force said it lifted its planes into the sky to track down Chinese planes. China’s planes were also detected on radar, the ministry said. The deployment of Chinese aircraft to Taiwan comes after the U.S. military said two of its warships were sailing in the South China Sea on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The U.S. said the warships USS Carl Vinson and USS Abraham Lincoln were engaged in submarine and air strike operations and were on high alert.<\/p>\n
