The bodies of people killed by armed motorcyclists were found today in an abandoned vehicle on the Colombia-Venezuela border. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“We believe these four men were trying to cross the Colombian side of the border,” Venezuelan Army General Jorge Mora said at the scene. In recent days 8 civilians have been killed by armed gangs in the once peaceful southwestern region of Venezuela, bordering Colombia, the defense minister said.<\/p>\n
Vladimir Padrino added that nine “terrorists” were also killed and 56 captured by the army in the Apure region, “without any loss of life for the soldiers.” The official also denounced the use of mines by armed groups and added that the government is engaged in the fight against “Colombian trafficking gangs”.<\/p>\n
Left-wing Colombian rebels have been reported to cross freely between the 2,000-kilometer-long border between the two countries for traffic operations. Colombia accuses Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of harboring Colombian revolutionary dissidents FARC or other militants.<\/p>\n
Several groups of traffickers fight for control of traffic routes through Colombia while often the two neighboring political rival countries accuse each other of neglecting organized crime.<\/p>\n
