The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday advised against travel to six countries and territories, including South Korea, Azerbaijan and Belarus due to the widespread spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The CDC also added Comoros, French Polynesia and Saint Pierre & Miquelon to the “Fourth Level: Very High” risk category.<\/p>\n
The US State Department also raised the risk level for trips to South Korea, Indonesia and Azerbaijan to “Level 4: Do not travel” on Monday.<\/p>\n
In total, the CDC ranks about 140 countries and territories at the highest alert level, including Canada, all of Europe, and almost all of Latin America, with declining but still very high levels of COVID, due to Omicron variants.<\/p>\n
The CDC ranks 50 countries or territories in Level Three: High, and advises against non-essential travel by unvaccinated Americans. Only 11 destinations – including China, New Zealand, Pakistan, Taiwan and Hong Kong – are rated “Level 1: Low” or “Level 2: Moderate”.<\/p>\n
The CDC lists about 40 other destinations as unknown and advises not to travel there unless you are vaccinated.<\/p>\n
Some industry officials have said they believe the CDC’s travel recommendations are a factor in declining demand for international air travel.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, major airlines, business and travel industry groups urged the White House to end its pre-departure testing obligation for COVID-19 for vaccinated international passengers traveling to the United States. \/ VOA \/<\/p>\n
