The powerful blast that hit a mining plant in Burkina Faso has killed at least 59 people, local media reported, citing witnesses and regional authorities.<\/p>\n
More than 100 people were injured in the blast.<\/p>\n
The blast occurred yesterday afternoon in the village of Gbomblora south of Burkina Faso and is believed to have started from chemicals used in gold processing.<\/p>\n
The official cause is still unknown according to the agency Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n A witness, forest worker Samson Kambou described the scene of the explosion as a massacre.<\/p>\n “I saw bodies everywhere, it was horrible,” he told the AP network.<\/p>\n Images of the devastation from the blast were posted on social media, showing fallen trees, equipment and mud-covered bodies.<\/p>\n Burkina Faso has many gold mines, most of which are informal plants with minimal operating rules.
