Russian President Vladimir Putin after the launch of the incursion in Ukraine has given a shocking warning to its ‘allies’ in the West, announcing this morning the consequences that, according to him, “will make them repent”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
As explosions were heard today near the Ukrainian capital Kiev, the Russian president said in a live broadcast early in the morning that the special military operation was aimed at “de-Nazifying Ukraine”.<\/p>\n
The development comes as UN Secretary-General Antonio Geteres called on Russia to halt the military offensive.<\/p>\n
But Putin urged the Ukrainian military to ‘lay down their arms and go home,’ saying that “Russia could not exist with the constant threat from Ukrainian territory, so a military confrontation between Russian and Ukrainian soldiers was inevitable.”<\/p>\n
US President Joe Biden responded to Putin’s attack last night by saying: “The prayers of the whole world are with Ukraine which is undergoing an unprovoked and unjustified attack by the Russian army.”<\/p>\n
Field reports indicate that Russian forces have neutralized Ukraine’s air defense systems and the country’s navy.<\/p>\n
Minutes after Putin’s speech, explosions were heard in the capital Kiev in Kramatorsk in central Ukraine and in southern Odessa, writes the British Daily Mail.<\/p>\n
Across Ukraine, ballistic missiles have destroyed military infrastructure and strategic plants, Moscow sources say.<\/p>\n
The town of Mariupol, on the Black Sea near the Russian border, was reported to be under military attack. The strategic region would be a crossing point for the newly independent republics of the Donbas region.<\/p>\n
In Kiev, people started using underground shelters after the distant noise of explosions, even though the air strike alarm had not been sounded.<\/p>\n
