Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban reiterated that his country is ready to host talks between Russia and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Speaking to the BBC on the Hungary-Ukraine border, Orban said the responsibility for ending the war lies, but more so with the Russian side.<\/p>\n
In the past, Orban has had close relations with President Putin, with 11 meetings in the last 12 years, most recently a month ago in Moscow.<\/p>\n
At the same time, his government has had strained relations with Ukraine, over a language law where the government said it discriminates against the large Hungarian minority in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
This morning while he visited one refugee reception center in Beregsurany on the Hungary-Ukraine border<\/strong><\/a> was asked what his message is to President Zelenszky of Ukraine and President Putin of Russia.<\/p>\n“I do not have a message for anyone. I have a message only for those refugees who are here,<\/em>Orban replied.<\/p>\n“Hungary is a good friend of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, if they need any help here, they can count on us. I do not think leaders need any message or advice from me. They are big boys and know better than me what to do. What is Hungarian desire, is not a piece of advice, not a message. Just a wish from the heart. “Peace, please, peace.”<\/em> said Orban.<\/p>\nThe Hungarian government has offered Budapest as a venue for future peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, as an alternative to the relatively low-level talks already taking place in the Belarusian capital, Minsk.<\/p>\n
