The old British Air Force ‘cadre’ David Ashley, 49, was flying the training fighter ‘Leonardo’ when he inexplicably crashed in the mountains north of Lake Como in Italy.

The M-346 training aircraft crashed yesterday at noon.

The father of two from Dorset in the south of Britain, was flying with the Italian pilot Giampaolo Goattin who managed to survive without serious injuries.

The two pilots are believed to have been released from the plane before the collision, while conducting tests for the Italian Armed Forces, writes the English network MailOnline.

It is not yet clear if it was David or Giampaolo in the direction of the plane at the time of their launch.

The plane crashed at an altitude of 2500 meters above sea level, before catching fire and crashing near the town of Colico.

The plane is believed to have had a long flight time before crashing tragically for the Briton.

This was not the first time David had been shot down by a plane, having previously survived a cockpit launch in Qatar in July 2019.
