Ukraine’s president makes surprise video appearance Saturday (March 26th) at Qatar Forum in Doha, urging energy-rich country and others to increase production to offset loss of Russian energy supplies .<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the United Nations and world powers to come to his aid, as he has done in a number of other speeches around the world since the start of the war on 24 February. “They are destroying our ports,” Zelenskyy said.<\/p>\n
“The lack of exports from Ukraine will deal a blow to countries around the world,” he said. The loss of Ukrainian wheat has already worried Middle Eastern countries like Egypt, which relies on those exports.<\/p>\n
Zelensky called on countries to increase their energy exports – something particularly important as Qatar is a world leader in natural gas exports.<\/p>\n
He criticized Russia for what he described as threatening the world with its nuclear weapons, increasing the possibility of using tactical nuclear weapons on the battlefield.<\/p>\n
“Russia is thinking of boasting that it can destroy with nuclear weapons, not just a certain country, but the whole planet,” Zelensky said.<\/p>\n
He also noted that Muslims in Ukraine will have to fight during the next month of Ramadan fasting.<\/p>\n
“We must make sure that this holy month of Ramadan is not overshadowed by the misery of the people in Ukraine,” he said.<\/p>\n
