The Acropolis and most of the Greek capital Athens, but also most of the country’s territory are covered since Thursday with a large cloud of African dust.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Local weather forecasters had predicted that for a few days dense clouds of dust coming from North Africa would cover the site and views of the Parthenon temple or other monuments, as well as the capital’s skyline hidden under a gray-orange mist best observed the phenomenon.<\/p>\n
The Athens National Observatory has announced that the concentration of dust in the atmosphere, which was particularly high on Thursday, will remain the same on Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to specialists, it is a mixture of sand and dust coming from the Sahara desert, driven by strong winds and traveling long distances, covering the atmosphere in an orange or reddish veil.<\/p>\n
The phenomenon in question often occurs for a few days during the spring or summer months.<\/p>\n
