Tirana and Mykonos will exchange their experiences in the field of tourism. The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj received the Mayor of Mykonos, Konstantinos Koukas, with whom he talked about the integration of our compatriots in the neighboring country, as well as the use of economic potentials in both cities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Veliaj said that this experience will also serve to promote tourism in Tirana. “It was a very special pleasure to have the mayor of Mykonos in Tirana, as an opportunity to learn more about tourism, heritage and how nature is preserved. I am honored that the Albanian community living in Mykonos has become part of the fabric of the island, the city and that extraordinary tourism and promotion industry. “This was also an opportunity to learn from the best, to gain experience in promoting Tirana”, he said.<\/p>\n
The Mayor of Mykonos, Konstantinos Koukas, described the work done in Tirana as excellent, while proposing the establishment of a direct flight line between the two cities. “You are doing a great job for your city. I did a little tour and am more impressed than I expected. I have been mayor for almost 7 and a half years, I know how important the role of the mayor is in the life of the city. It would be nice to have direct flights from Tirana to Mykonos. “I am sure that a better cooperation between the two cities will bring better results for our citizens”, said Koukas.<\/p>\n
While assessing the relations between the two governments as excellent, Veliaj underlined that diplomacy between the cities is receiving increased attention. “We have special, extraordinary relations between the two governments, the Albanian government and the Greek government. But, I believe municipalities are places where people communicate. Sure, we need diplomacy, but cities are what connect people on the ground. They connect them in their daily lives, in their customs and in their families. Therefore, I am very grateful for the hospitality and integration of the Albanian community in Mykonos. “I can not wait to learn from your experience”, said Veliaj.<\/p>\n
The Mayor expressed the readiness for Tirana to host some young people from Mykonos in Albania, as an opportunity to build new partnerships. “This year, Tirana is the European Capital of Youth and it would be ideal to host some of the young people of Mykonos, to understand how one of their ventures, the associations between them, can create partnerships that will last a lifetime. “Many young creatives with fantasy and a lot of zeal to cooperate, can be a bridge of cooperation between our two nations”, underlined Veliaj.<\/p>\n
