A spokesman for the Turkish president said today that the war in Ukraine is a “Cold War of the new era”, with consequences that will last for several decades.<\/p>\n
Commenting on his rude predictions on Twitter, Ibrahim Kalin said that the crisis in Ukraine continues to deepen, therefore “seeking a new balance of power, along with calculations for short-term benefits, will cause great human drama.” and strategic losses, in the medium and long term. \u201d<\/p>\n
“We have entered a ‘Cold War’ of a new era. The effects of this war will last for decades, “wrote Kalin, who has been the spokesman for Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan since 2014.<\/p>\n
Since launching the Moscow offensive on February 24, Turkey has maintained a ‘neutral’ position by pushing for peace talks and warning the West against attempts to isolate Russia, trying to act as a mediator between Moscow and Kiev. Ankara has refused to impose sanctions on Russia and has maintained diplomatic channels with both sides.<\/p>\n
Tensions between Russia and the West have risen in recent weeks, and the threat of another Cold War has been expressed by others.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the month, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Wenbin accused the United States of having a “Cold War mentality” and calling on it to change “the practice of creating imaginary enemies or confronting blocs.”<\/p>\n
