An Indian couple have taken their son and his bride to court, in what is considered the world’s first case of legal action for the fact that they are not giving birth to children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad, from the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, say the fact that their son is not giving birth to a grandson or granddaughter is causing them “mental agony and deep anxiety”.<\/p>\n
Parents also say they have spent a lot of money on their son’s education and upbringing, and the children could be their only compensation for the effort spent.<\/p>\n
In legal documents the Prasad couple demand that their son Shrey Sagar and wife Shubhangi either give birth to a child within a year, or otherwise compensate them with $ 700,000.<\/p>\n
Mr. Prasad explains that they paid for Shrey and Shubhangi’s costly wedding in a five-star hotel and bought them a $ 90,000 luxury car, as well as financially supporting them for two years, until their son trained and found work. si pilot.<\/p>\n

“When he finally got married in 2016 we hoped he would give us a grandchild to have for retirement age.”<\/p>\n

Many traditional families seek offspring from their sons but taking legal action on this is unprecedented.<\/p>\n
Lawyer Arvind Kumar Srivastava said the preliminary hearing of the case will be held in northern India on May 17.<\/p>\n
