Germany’s largest opposition parliamentary group, the CDU \/ CSU, has asked the German government for active support for Kosovo’s membership in the EC.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In a press release, Thursday, 12.05. in the evening, the CDU deputy, Michael Brand<\/strong>writes that “The application of the Republic of Kosovo for membership in the Council of Europe is a logical step”<\/em>. Brand estimates that “Kosovo in the recent past has made great progress in terms of the rule of law and the fight against corruption and crime.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Brand, who chairs the CDU \/ CSU Parliamentary Working Group on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, said:<\/p>\n

“No other European country refers so clearly in the Constitution to the European Court of Human Rights. “Its jurisdiction is already recognized as mandatory for Kosovo.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Brand further writes that Kosovo is “by far the most pro-European country in the Balkans”, arguing that more than 90 percent of the population is consistently in favor of EU and NATO integration.<\/p>\n

“Under the new government, the country is pursuing an absolutely pro-European and pro-Western policy. “The Kosovo government has also very quickly joined all Western sanctions against Russia.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Brand says membership in Euro-Atlantic structures would create stability in the Balkans.<\/p>\n

“At the turning point after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the federal government must actively support Kosovo’s application for EU and NATO membership, so that peace in other parts of Europe, especially in the Balkans, is no longer endangered by the actions of Russia and Serbia. “From pro-Russian propaganda to military maneuvers.”<\/em><\/p>\n
