The head of the Russian republic of Chechnya, a fanatical supporter of President Vladimir Putin, has warned Poland today that it could be Russia’s next military target, risking a direct conflict with NATO.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Ramzan Kadyrov said that the Russian occupation of Ukraine is just the beginning of a wide-ranging conflict in Europe, commenting ironically: “Ukraine is over now, now let’s see what will happen to Poland.”<\/p>\n
The 45-year-old fighter is one of Putin’s close allies and his forces have been on the ground in the military offensive in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Poland, which joined NATO in 1999, is considered the main front against Russia, and officials there have called for a permanent border force from the US and NATO to protect the east.<\/p>\n
But Kadyrov said in his shocking video message recorded this week that Poland ‘risks being attacked’ if it continues to arm Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Saying he would not forget this month’s incident with the Russian ambassador in Warsaw, he added: “What does Poland want to achieve? “Once we are done with Ukraine, we will show you what we can do.”<\/p>\n
He referred to this month’s incident when a protester threw red paint on the face of the Russian ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev, saying: “Take and remove your weapons and mercenaries and apologize to our ambassador.”<\/p>\n
Polish authorities had expressed “regret” over the attack on Russia’s Victory Day, but Russian officials said it was not enough.<\/p>\n
“We do not forget this, remember,” Kadyrov warned.<\/p>\n
In a similar development this week, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine was attacked with green paint on his face during a mass in Lvov, in a “punishment” similar to that Ukrainian extremists have often applied to local elements considered pro- Russians or who refuse to fight against Russia.<\/p>\n
But Kadyrov is not the only Putin’s extremist official to propose an attack on Poland.<\/p>\n
“Poland should be the next country after Ukraine in the de-Nazification process,” said Oleg Morozov, leader of Putin’s party, United Russia.<\/p>\n
