{"id":53580,"date":"2022-05-28T14:18:17","date_gmt":"2022-05-28T14:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imalbania.com\/kosova\/dozens-die-as-families-are-crushed-over-gifts-during-religious-service-in-nigeria-photos\/"},"modified":"2022-05-28T14:18:17","modified_gmt":"2022-05-28T14:18:17","slug":"dozens-die-as-families-are-crushed-over-gifts-during-religious-service-in-nigeria-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imalbania.com\/kosova\/dozens-die-as-families-are-crushed-over-gifts-during-religious-service-in-nigeria-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Dozens die as families are crushed over gifts during religious service in Nigeria (photos)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"firstP\">\n<p>A total of 40 people are reported to have died today as families were crushed to death during a religious service in Nigeria where free gifts and food were also offered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The horrific incident occurred during an event at King&#8217;s Church in the southern coastal city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Among the victims were women and children.<\/p>\n<p>A witness said the incident occurred during the Free Shopping program, where gifts and food were distributed as gifts for the fourth anniversary of the Church.<\/p>\n<p>People had started coming to church early for the event even though it was supposed to start at 9.00<\/p>\n<p>Around 08.00 the gathered crowds entered the indoor premises after attending the members of a sporting event.<\/p>\n<p>Local network <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/breaking-scores-feared-dead-in-rivers-church-stampede\/\">Punch<\/a> said most of the victims were taken to Port Harcourt Military Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>A source said: &#8220;The incident happened this morning, the church invited members for the fourth anniversary gifts but people had gathered since 06.30&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the crowds saw an opportunity to enter through a narrow gate, the people crushed each other.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I counted 21 dead bodies on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is not the first time the church has held this program, or the crowd was very large.
