In 5 years from the period 2016-2020, according to the latest report from the Institute of Public Health, about 26,000 abortions have been performed, mainly by women aged 20-34.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gynecologists explain that unwanted pregnancies that bring abortions have declined year after year, due to the changing mentality of women where recently they are giving importance to family planning methods.<\/p>\n<p>Abortions during the years 2016-2020:<\/p>\n<p>Year 2016: 7.8 abortions per 1000 women aged 15-49<\/p>\n<p>Year 2020: 6.7 abortions per 1000 women aged 15-49<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Women are realizing that they need to take precautions against unwanted pregnancies and plan how many children they want to have and when.&#8221;<\/em> said gynecologist Mimoza Keta.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion in Albania became legal in 1995, but should only be performed when necessary due to health problems or malformations of the baby, but the phenomenon of adolescent abortions remains a concern.<\/p>\n<p>Although IPH data show that during 2020 only 105 young people aged 14-19 were aborted, gynecologists show that the number may be higher due to their concealment.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;There are private clinics that do not show that they perform abortions.  &#8220;Adolescent abortion is a concern.&#8221;<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n<p>The highest percentage of abortions results in women with low education, who are not employed.
