The Rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament, Isabel Santos, who together with a group of MEPs visited our country, held a meeting with the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. Expressing her consideration for Tirana, which, as she says, she has visited as often as she feels at home, Santos said that Albania should be a member of the EU as soon as possible. The Portuguese MEP claims that in the Albanian capital the same atmosphere is felt as in any other European capital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“I am very happy to be in Tirana. It’s my fourth time coming here and I feel at home. Tirana is a very European city, Albania is a very pro-European country and a very important partner of the European Union. Many reforms have been made in recent years in very difficult conditions, but successful reforms have resulted. The country has all the conditions to move forward with the association process and I hope to see you very soon in the European Union, as EU members, because you are already citizens of the European Union. Only walking through Tirana we feel the atmosphere of our capitals and it is very important this feeling that we have here, really pro-European in your way of living. “Therefore, I am very happy to be here and I hope to see you soon as EU members,” said Santos.<\/p>\n
Mayor Veliaj said that Tirana is injecting more and more European spirit into the citizens, who today are among the most pro-union nations.<\/p>\n
“It was an extraordinary pleasure to receive the rapporteur Isabel Santos and her MEP colleagues in Tirana. Tirana is already, not only the epicenter of all youth activities as the European Youth Capital 2022, but also of a daily injection of what is our European spirit. I’m glad to see new and old friends promoting Albania’s entry into the European Union. We are all hopeful! Our task is to carry out all the recommendations and build a piece of Europe here, in our country. Of course, not everything depends on us. Many things depend on different dynamics in certain countries, how they view relations with the region, what problems our neighbors may have with some of their other neighbors. But, I believe that we, as leaders of municipalities, must create European spaces in our cities “, said Veliaj.<\/p>\n
He brought to attention the Congress of Socialist Youth, the Italian Culture Week, the Greek Culture Week and many other political and cultural activities organized in the capital, as part of the year that has given Tirana the title of European Youth Capital.<\/p>\n
