Following the severe blow it received from the coronavirus pandemic, the vital tourism industry in Croatia is recovering.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Entire legions of tourists are raiding the beautiful country on the Adriatic coast, but it has one problem: It lacks staff for the sector.<\/p>\n
Faced with a chronic shortage of tourism workers, Croatia is recruiting people to neighboring Balkan countries and as far as Asia to fill the gap.<\/p>\n
This is a problem that other major tourist destinations in Europe, France, Spain and Greece, have also experienced since the lifting of Covid restrictions.<\/p>\n
But it’s famous for Croatia’s idyllic coastline littered with islands is a stalemate that has been going on for years, and only got worse by the pandemic.<\/p>\n
The tourism industry may have a shortage of 10,000 workers this year, according to official estimates.<\/p>\n
“The situation is alarming.”<\/em>says Stanislav Briskoski, owner of a restaurant in the Rovinj resort.<\/p>\n “Young people need to understand that they can become good chefs or be successful in the catering business, just by working hard. “Tourism is not a jackpot, it is not a lottery, it takes 10 or 15 years of work to start and see the results”, <\/em>said Stanislav Briskoski, restaurant owner<\/p>\n David Trajanovic from Serbia works as a waiter in the area, and is satisfied with the working conditions.<\/p>\n “My friends recommended me this place, the salary is better than in Serbia, and we have fun here in the summer by the sea, they are good reasons to come”,<\/em> said David Trajanovic, waiter.<\/p>\n James Pepino from the Philippines is also pleased to be working in Croatia.<\/p>\n “For me it is a very good opportunity, it is a golden opportunity to work here in Europe.”<\/em> said James Pepito, gardener.<\/p>\n Locals are urging authorities to further promote vocational schools and train more young people with tourism hotel courses.<\/p>\n \n<\/p>\n top channel
