Residents of a fishing village have been shocked by a “monster” shark of the “big-mouthed” species that had come out dead on the shores of a village in the Philippines, whose death has put officials in an emergency to find answers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The deep-sea shark was photographed dead in shallow water in the Gubat area, on the northeastern island of Sorogon on June 11th.<\/p>\n
Water resources spokeswoman Nonie said the cause of death could have been stranding in a fishing net, the Rappler network reported.<\/p>\n
“We want to verify the cause of death of the great shark, then we want to preserve the carcass through preservative solutions,” she said.<\/p>\n
In the images posted on social networks, residents were seen surrounding the giant creature and some of them touched it on the head.<\/p>\n
This shark species lives at depths of about 3000 meters and spends most of its time in the dark.<\/p>\n
The great shark feeds more or less like whales by filtering water for plankton.<\/p>\n
They can weigh up to 1 ton and reach 6 meters in length.<\/p>\n
The animal was first discovered in Haitian waters in 1976.<\/p>\n
