Although violent insurgents targeted both Democrats and Republicans, Trump supporters insisted the committee investigating the incident was illegal.<\/p>\n
The poll shows that suspicion of the government extends mainly to party lines.<\/p>\n
56% of the participants said that \u201cthey generally believed that the elections were fair and correct. About 80% of Democrats have confidence in the election, while the figure begins to fall to 51% among independent voters and further to 33% for Republicans.<\/p>\n
49% of Americans agreed that “more and more feel like strangers in their own country.” But that number was again divided along political lines: The sentiment was strong among 69% of Republicans or those who described themselves as “very conservative”, and only 38% among Democrats.<\/p>\n
Of the 28% of voters who said that if necessary “take up arms against the government”, only 37% had guns in their homes, according to further data.<\/p>\n
One-third of Republicans and 45% of “strong Republicans” were of the opinion to fight the government.<\/p>\n
73% of those declared Republican voters believed that \u201cDemocrats are arrogant who impose their political beliefs on those who disagree.<\/p>\n
“Although partisan polarization has been documented for years in our country, the survey shows that there are deep divisions,” said organizer Neil Newhouse.<\/p>\n
