Stoltenberg highlighted Cavoli&#8217;s role in overseeing the latest buildup of US troop deployments in Europe in response to Russia&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The general will be primarily responsible for planning and implementing military measures designed to protect the Western alliance and deter Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Cavoli was born in Germany and lived most of his life on US military bases.  He joined the US Army in 1987 and has served in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq and Afghanistan.
