The U.S. said the sanctions came after US intelligence agencies concluded that Russia&#8217;s Federal Security Service (FSB) was behind Navalny&#8217;s poisoning.  The poisoning occurred in August last year.<br \/>Navalny was arrested in January in Moscow after arriving from Germany, where he was treated for poisoning with nerve agent Novichok.  He blames President Putin for ordering the poisoning.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union has also sanctioned four senior Russian officials for poisoning Putin and imprisoning him.<\/p>\n<p>Navalny was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for an earlier case involving misappropriation of funds.
