Silva Doçi and Josilda Ndreaj, were two Albanian girls who were found in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of Covid19’s first appearance. From Wuhan, the country that changes the normal course of the whole world, two years ago these girls told Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu the vicissitudes of leaving.
March 2020
Silva Doçi: I was scared and tried to make the right preparations but because I did not know what to prepare I was anxious. The family pushed me to leave. At that time the Wuhan siege and closure had also begun. At first I did not want to. Coronavirus has made me feel more strongly about the connection with Wuhan, with the university and all the people there.
Muhamed Veliu: Silva in March 2020 I interviewed you when you just came from Wuhani to Albania. Two years have passed. How have these two years been for you?
Silva Doçi: It has been two years of ups and downs, in my life in Albania as a student returning from China in the part of my studies that I had to complete online. They have been difficult for me trying to be part of Albanian society again as a returning student. Tough even in terms of the labor market.
Muhamed Veliu: Silva is it fair to say that the Covid-19 pandemic gave your life a completely unexpected turn?
Silva Doci: Yes it is fair to say so. It was something unexpected for the whole world. For me it came at a very important stage of my life. I was finishing my doctoral studies and I had to leave in half and come back. It was the most important moment for me and I had to live this moment online. It was not something happy. It was not as I expected. The pandemic caused me this change. But living in two years of pandemic I realized that there are other more important things even though our life takes on a life we had not thought of. We need to get used to and adapt to this new flow. But there are great worries that will long remain with me.
Muhamed Veliu: You have lived in China for a full 11 years. Are you planning to return to live where you left off two years ago?
Silva Doçi: My wish is to contribute to the Albanian society. Since I finished my studies abroad I wanted to bring something new. I also plan to return there to China. It is one of my options since I have spent many years there and I have close ties. I do not want to sever my connection with Albania.
Top Channel followed and brought the story of another Albanian student in Wuhan, that of Josilda Ndreaj the day she arrived with her family in Golem, Durrës.
March 2020
Josilda Ndreaj: I managed the situation to return to Albania. This was the decision I made at that stage. I was unsure of the situation because in those moments you fail to understand as things happen very quickly. I was alone and if I got infected I would not have the support of family members or any other authority.
Josilda Ndreaj: These two years there have been many changes in my life. In the blink of an eye the whole bot-meaning may have changed except for experiences that are unplanned and unimagined before. My study was interrupted due to the pandemic and it was feared that I would not be able to continue my right to study. My future in Albania was also uncertain. Every one of my plans was cut in half because of the pandemic.
Muhamed Veliu: During all this time you are in Albania, what have you been doing?
Josilda Ndreaj: I worked in my profession as a lawyer until the moment I worked to work for Chinese or American companies as a freelance. This opportunity was given to me by my education there but also by my experience in an international environment.
Muhamed Veliu: Do you have plans to return to China?
Josilda Ndreaj: I am currently considering going to China, I am in negotiations with some Chinese companies to go there to work. But although the situation there is stable in terms of health but the legislation there is compiled to go and work as a foreigner.
