Footage published by the Yemeni Huthi rebel media showed military vehicles being seized on a UAE-flagged ship.
They said the vehicle captured in the Red Sea was carrying out “hostile acts”.
The UAE is part of Yemen’s pro-government coalition and is led by Saudi Arabia, which is fighting Iranian-backed rebels.
The published images showed weapons and military armored vehicles aboard the ship called Ruabe.
The ruling coalition called the seizure an “act of piracy” and threatened to retake the ship by force.
The rebels said the naval crew was from several nations and warned of consequences if the ship was attacked.
The incident comes after weeks of fierce fighting and heavy airstrikes by Saudi Arabia on rebel territories in Yemen.
The latter have stepped up missile attacks on Saudi targets in Yemen, as well as within the territory of the powerful neighbor.
The heavy fighting has been going on for eight years in the conflict that has killed and displaced millions of people, in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
