NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky commented on the escalation of tensions with Russia in Brussels on Thursday.
In the current strategic concept we refer to Russia as a strategic partner. But we have recently seen more aggressive actions. We have seen Russia invade its neighbors, illegally annex Crimea, and destabilize eastern Ukraine.
“What is happening now in the occupied Crimea and in the Donbas as well as on the borders of Ukraine and in the Black Sea and Azov should be considered a combination of hybrid elements that Russia uses to blackmail our state.
The EU supports us but everyone understands that the price will be too high. No one understands the human costs, ie how many lives will be lost in the event of an invasion. “Nobody loves him.”, said Jens Stoltenberg.
The Russia-Ukraine crisis is one of the main topics of the leaders’ summit in Brussels.
A day earlier, a group of US lawmakers who had just returned from Ukraine recommended to the White House that it send weapons as soon as possible because the threats were not working to repel Russia.
