The Russian Ministry of Defense today published the images of the launch of the Caliber ballistic missile by the new oil-electric submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The ministry said the submarine had arrived at the Russian Pacific Fleet base a month earlier. The new diesel-electric submarine is one of the few models adapted for Caliber high-precision missiles.
Authorities said the weapon was fired from an underwater position and accurately hit its coastal target several thousand miles away.
Developments come at a time when President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow is ready to take “military-technical” measures in response to the “unfriendly” actions of the West.
For weeks, the Russian president has accused the United States and NATO of fomenting tensions near Russia’s borders, referring to Ukraine. While the United States has raised the alarm that Moscow may be preparing a large-scale attack on Ukraine and has warned of sanctions that in case it happens.
