Albania will help Kosovo in the energy crisis that is going through these days.
Prime Minister Edi Rama informs that he asked today from the Ministry of Energy to evaluate any possibility of assistance to the government of Kosovo, so that they do not lack electricity in the two days of the New Year.
“Albania does not have at all easy protection of families and small enterprises from the raging wave of energy crisis that is threatening every country, but in big chants or popular joys such as the New Year, we can not not to share it with Kosovo as much as we have! Following with concern the severe energy crisis that has affected Kosovo, today I asked the Ministry of Energy to evaluate any possibility of assistance to the government of Kosovo, so that families in Kosovo do not lack electricity on the two days of the popular holiday of the New Year! ”, writes Rama.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti reacted the day before to the energy crisis that the country is experiencing, proposing two solutions to this situation, reducing or increasing the price of energy.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo said that the country should have thought beforehand not to reach this situation, while emphasizing that the factors that influenced this crisis are: Lack of vision for socio-economic development of Kosovo, with planning of the energy sector for the supply of stable and affordable prices and government corruption became the norm, culminating in the privatization of the distribution and supply network for only 26 million euros.
Kurti, through a post on Facebook called on citizens to consume electricity rationally.
“Kosovo is also in an energy crisis. High import prices are a consequence of external factors, while the weakening of capacities is a consequence of internal causes. On the one hand, the price of energy on the stock exchange has increased sevenfold: it was around 70 euros per MWh under normal conditions, while on December 21 it reached up to 515 euros! On the other hand, not even half of our consumption is covered by production: demand has reached a historic peak of 1.4 GW, while in the best case (until we repair block B2 with a power of 255 MW) our thermal power plants generate not even 650 MË! In this situation there is no good solution: either energy cuts, or energy prices? Much earlier, Kosovo had to think more and better, not to end up in this bad situation. There are two internal factors that have brought us into this crisis. Lack of vision for Kosovo socio-economic development, with energy sector planning for sustainable supply and affordable prices, both for households and industry. Second, government corruption became commonplace, culminating in the privatization of the distribution and supply network for only 26m euros. During these two decades, various projects without long-term strategies could not fail to fail. In 2022 we will have the national energy strategy for the next decade, and the paths to walk towards 2050. I and the Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli are in regular communication with KEK, KOSTT and ERO. With the increase of liquidity and the subsidy of imports we have managed to stabilize the supply and the reductions have almost been removed. We are doing everything we can. Thank you for your support and please save and streamline your spending as much as you can“, Writes Kurti.
Kosovo has been facing an energy crisis for days. The reductions were instructed by the System and Market Operator – KOSTT, due to the overload in the power system.
The energy crisis is leaving citizens and businesses in distress without electricity for hours.
The situation is serious in the Municipality of Hani i Elezit, where citizens complain that the reductions are lasting for days, while the mayor of this municipality, Mehmet Ballazhi said that businesses are also being damaged.
