Today, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called on citizens to be vaccinated, noting that the vast majority of covid-19 treated patients in intensive care have not been vaccinated with the booster dose.
The Prime Minister also said that citizens should celebrate the New Year wisely after his decision not to impose stricter restrictions to curb the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
“I’m sorry to say this, but the vast majority of people who end up in the ICU of our hospitals are people who have not received the booster dose. “, The prime minister told reporters during a visit to a vaccination center.
“I have talked to doctors who say that the number (of those who have not received the third dose) and are in the ICU reaches up to 90%. “The Omicron variant is still causing real problems, you can see that cases are increasing in hospitals, but it is definitely milder (Omicron variant) than Delta , ”Commented Johnson.
“I think everyone should have fun on New Year’s Eve, but logically and prudently. Take a test, think about ventilation, think about others, but above all do the third dose “, He said.
Britain has a record number of new cases and 129,471 new infections were reported yesterday due to the highly contagious variant of the Omicron virus.
Although the number of daily beds has increased to 1000, it remains much lower than at the beginning of the year with 4000 in January.
