23 people, all supporters of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, are expected to face charges on Wednesday filed by the prosecution in the Tirana Court. Some of the arrested names of both camps are not a little known to the media.
One of them is Arkimed Lushaj, known by his stage name as “Stress” and also as an ardent supporter of former Prime Minister Berisha, he has denied all charges, stating that he has not committed any criminal offense.
Sources for the Top Channel journalist, Anila Hoxha show that the arrested persons and who turn out to be supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha, have denied the facts that they were involved in violent protests in front of the PD headquarters on January 8.
Prosecutor Elio Mazreku took two days to prepare the requests against the arrested persons from both camps. The suspects handcuffed at the end of the January 8 protest are charged with everything from illegal protest, blocking the road, damaging property to violating the rules on explosives and fuels.
Below, we will list only some of the statements that the arrested persons have given to the prosecution:
Alban Zajmi asked as a person under investigation stated that he participated in this protest as a PD sympathizer. At 11:30 he entered the courtyard of this party from the wing of the Mosque and stood in the courtyard until the crowd dispersed. According to the service report, around 12:50 Alban Zajmi was found throwing stones at the PD headquarters towards the building.
Arkimed Lushaj asked as a person under investigation stated that he does not accept the charge as he has not committed any of the criminal offenses listed by the police. He took part in the protest, but did not take any illegal action. He states that he does not understand the reason for his arrest in the conditions when he has not committed any criminal offense or illegal action.
Hajredin Gjuraj Asked as a person under investigation, he stated that he had nothing to do with the protest but came to Tirana for personal problems. He called his brother and asked him where he was, while he replied that he was on the street of Elbasan and after meeting the two together they took the road towards the bridge to a shopping center near the blue headquarters. He says that he found the sticks on the street and because he is a caretaker he took them because he needed them to use in his house, as the only means of livelihood he has is working the land and he does it by manual labor. He also stated that he has three children and the eldest is 13 years old. From the service report it results that from the police forces around 12:30 two people were found committing violent actions against police officers. They were kept under surveillance and detained after the protest ended. Hajredin Gjura at the time of detention had in his hands two wooden sticks that were seized.
Denis Luku Asked as a person under investigation, he stated that he does not accept the accusation because he is a member of the Democratic Party and he was there as a member of this party.
Gjon Pepaj Asked as a person under investigation, in the presence of defense counsel Suat Idrizi, he stated that he had come to Tirana to meet his lawyer because he has a civil case that he is pursuing; since he does not know Tirana well, he parked his car at a shopping center near the PD headquarters. He then returned to get his car, as he wanted to get home as soon as possible, because he has two minor daughters and his wife died in an accident. As he approached the mall he met some people he knew; during the time he was with them, around 5 minutes, police officers approached them and escorted them to the police station.
Selman Krasniqi when questioned as a person under investigation, he stated that he did not commit any act of violence. He is a PD supporter and went to the headquarters of this party to protest peacefully. He had nothing illegal with him.
Shaban Halili stated that he left Shijak with the owner of the restaurant where he works, Selman Krasniqi to take part in the protest. He claims that he had a Democratic Party flag in his hands and during the protest he stood in front of the PD headquarters waving the flag. Sometime around 14:00 after the protest ended, he left the PD headquarters and went somewhere from the stadium.
