New evidence shows a massive accumulation of Russian military equipment and troops at close range to Ukraine, hours after US President Joe Biden continued war rhetoric by saying “Putin will invade.”
According to western reporting, Russian troops have been told they will stay “families” for “nine months” after the strategic relocation of thousands of kilometers from east to west.
January 19 satellite images showed “battle groups” deployed at the Voronezh base, 300km from Ukraine, with rows of tanks and artillery, also accumulated at the Yelnya base, 125km from the Russian border with Ukraine.
Other images showed equipment at the two Klintsky and Klimovo bases, just 30km from the border with Belarus and about 50km from the Russian border with Ukraine.
About 100,000 troops are believed to have been mobilized along with tank trains and rocket launchers, following the escalation of recent days of rhetoric and tensions between Moscow and the West.
The videos show rocket launchers, armored vehicles and communications trucks being transported to Belarus’ Gomel and Rechitsa bases, both about 60km from the Ukrainian border.
President Biden said yesterday that the Russian leader “will do something” but does not believe that Putin will demand an open war because, according to Biden, if he does, “he will pay dearly.”
“He will do something; he is trying to find his place between China and the West,” Biden said hours after announcing another $ 200 million in military aid to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov yesterday denounced Biden’s comments, blaming the US for destabilizing the situation, but did not rule out the possibility of new security talks between Putin and Biden.
A convoy of Russian BM-27, 220mm rocket launchers and their loading vehicles arrived Monday at the Gomel base from eastern Siberia.
