Terrified witnesses have recently told how a young girl bathing in a water mattress was brutally attacked by a shark, which then gave up allowing the victim to return and be assisted by other beachgoers.
Jacquelin Morley was bathing with her camera about 150 feet off the coast of Australia when the 4-foot-tall predator gritted its teeth without warning.
The 20-year-old attacked was published in the photo for the first time.
After the attack she had managed to swim to shore where she was assisted by residents and then flown by helicopter to Perth Hospital for a bite in the rib area.
Jacquelin has recently spoken to the local network West Australianalong with Darren Patten who was swimming next to her friends Jacqueline when the attack took place.
Daren says, “It’s awful when you think about it.”
Local Barry Brown said he and his brothers had spotted worrying that the beach in the commode was gradually leaving the shore.
“It seemed to go deeper and deeper,” Brown told the network A B C.
“We then saw a picture and we were not sure if it was a dolphin or something else under the camera. “But the woman waved her arms and started swimming back with one hand, while holding her side with the other.”
“The shark came around a couple of times and then left in the blue sea.”
Brown added that he saw a long trail of blood when he went to help the girl and was worried the predator might return.
When he had entered about 20 meters into the sea he took the girl and ran to the beach, where his girlfriend was waiting for him.
“We wrapped him in a blanket and put him back in the car to take him to the hospital.”
The attack took place in the infamous Esperance area, where several fatal shark attacks have occurred over the years.
Authorities said shark response teams are investigating and have urged other swimmers to exercise caution.
