Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not expect the meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations to be held in Belarus on Monday to bring a solution to his country.
“I do not believe much in the result of this meeting, but let’s try. So that no citizen of Ukraine has any doubt that I, as president, did not try to stop the war when there was even a small chance“, Said Zelensky, in a statement to the media.
He stressed that along with his cabinet, is located in Ukraine and everyone will defend to the end Ukraine and its borders.
Through an announcement in the Telegram, the office of President Volodymyr Zelenski announced that the two sides will meet at an unidentified location on the Belarusian border, while the time has not been announced.
Earlier, Russia said its delegation left for Belarus in anticipation of the meeting. Ukraine insisted the talks should not take place in Belarus, where Russia sent a large number of troops before launching an attack on Ukraine on Thursday.
President Zelensky’s office said Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin’s ally, had agreed that during the talks, the weapons sent there would not move.
Putin, meanwhile, today ordered Russian nuclear forces to be on high alert, amid “aggressive statements by NATO leaders and economic sanctions against Moscow,” he said.
The White House reacted by emphasizing that this order of President Putin is part of the threats fabricated by Moscow to justify the aggression.
“Russia has never been under the threat of NATO, Russia has never been under the threat of Ukraine,” said a White House spokeswoman.
On the fourth day of the Russian occupation, destructive bombing is constantly heard in Ukraine.
During the night, Russian forces targeted several oil depots and other key points in Kiev’s Vasilikov,
Shortly afterwards, the Ukrainian government warned that smoke from the blast could cause an “environmental catastrophe” and advised people to keep their windows closed.
Fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops continues on the streets of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city.
