The March 6 by-elections were also a race within the right, with the Democratic Party led by Lulzim Basha and the Socialist Movement for Integration and Sali Berisha’s “House of Freedom” coalition running.
The elections come after months of tensions between Berisha and his successor in the Democratic Party, Basha. Berisha seeks to reconfirm Democrat support.
Voters in Vora, Shkodra, Durres, Dibra, Lushnja and Rrogozhina voted today in the by-elections to appoint the new mayor.
In three of the six municipalities, according to the results so far from the Central Election Commission, the “House of Freedom” coalition is the second force.
In Vora, where the winner was Blerim Shera from the Socialist Party, the candidate of the coalition “House of Freedom” received 2,589 votes, while Ymera Marku from the Democratic Party 687 votes.
In Rrogozhina, Hekuran Xhani from the coalition “House of Freedom” has received 224 votes so far, while Ferdinand Saraçi from PD, 205 votes.
And in the municipality of Lushnja, the candidate of the coalition “House of Freedom” is convincingly ahead of the candidate of the Democrats. Elton Bano collected 576 votes, while Indrit Sefa 158.
