Chinese President Xi Jinping has described the situation in Ukraine as worrying and called for “maximum restraint” on both sides.
During a virtual meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Xi said the priority should be to prevent the situation in Ukraine from spiraling out of control, and said the three countries should support peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
China and Russia currently enjoy close diplomatic relations, and Beijing has so far not condemned the attack on Ukraine.
Recall that China abstained during the UN Security Council vote condemning the invasion of Ukraine.
