Leading Turkish state-owned drone manufacturer ‘Baykar’ has recently introduced a prototype of the Turkish drone called ‘Bayraktar Kizilelma’ (Red Apple), which the company has developed with local sources, reports Anadolu Agency.
By developing the ‘Bayraktar TB2’ drone, which represents a radical change in warfare technology, Baykar has left behind an important stage in the study of unmanned aerial vehicles, while the first prototype of such an aircraft has already entered the line of military integration.
Baykar’s chief technology officer Selcuk Bayraktar has announced that this project of the Baykar drone combat system (MIUS) is called ‘Bayraktar Kizilelma’.
“After three and a half years, the biggest and most agile fish have entered the production line,” Bayraktar wrote on social media.
Further, Bayraktar warns that Kizilelma is a goal that is being pursued and that will always weigh.
“It will always lead us forward in the future. “With ‘Bayraktar Kizilelma’ we want our nation, which has lived free for centuries, to take its deserved place in heaven and space by developing high technology with the vision of the National Technological Movement”, said Bayraktar.
“Because we thought ‘Kizilelma’ would serve our people and humanity, we chose this name that comes from the past of our ancient civilization, where the world is watching the last fifth-generation fighter jet. Piloted fighter jets will no longer be developed. From now on, the most powerful elements of the battlefield will be unmanned systems. “We are working to keep our country in the races of the future,” he added.
Bayraktar Kizilelma conceptual design works were first distributed to the public on July 20, 2021 as an Eid gift on the first day of Eid al-Adha. Eight months later, the Bayraktar Kizilelma drone joined the integration line.
‘Bayraktar Kizillelma’, who will have the ability to land and take on short-haul ships, like the new Turkish fighter TCG Anadolu, will play an important role in overseas missions.
The aircraft, whose development studies are carried out entirely by Turkish engineers and technicians with experience gained in the Bayraktar TB2 and Bayraktar Akinci projects, will provide effectiveness against air targets with domestic ammunition.
The characteristics of the small radar section, which is considered one of the most critical issues in the design processes of manned fighter jets, has also been taken into account in the design of the ‘Bayraktara Kizilelme’.
‘Bayraktar Kizilelma’, who will successfully perform even the most difficult tasks thanks to the low radar track, must have a lifting weight of six tons.
The aircraft will use ammunition developed by Turkish engineers and its planned payload is 1,500 kilograms.
Bayraktar Kizilelma aims to stay in the air for six hours with a mission range of 500 nautical miles (926 kilometers).
Baykar has managed to make Turkey one of the few countries capable of developing unmanned aerial vehicles in the offensive class, and the first test flight is scheduled for 2023.
