The European Space Agency has suspended a program for the planet Mars, for which it was working in collaboration with the Russian space agency Roscosmos.
In a statement posted on its website, ESA said it would be impossible to continue collaborating with Roscosmos on its ExoMars rover mission, which aims to conduct further research on the surface of Mars.
He said the EAS council had taken the decision unanimously in response to the situation in Ukraine.
“We express our deepest condolences for the human victims and the tragic consequences of the aggression against Ukraine“, It is said in the statement. ““While recognizing the impact on space exploration, ESA is fully in line with the sanctions imposed on Russia by its member states.”.
The British-made Mars rover Rosalind Franklin would be launched on a Russian rocket in September and landed eight months later using Russian equipment.
Last month, Esa said sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had called into question the mission.
