The process of burying the dead chickens is continuing in one of the facilities affected by aviation influenza in the Durrës area, while the order from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to eliminate the infected chickens has not yet arrived.
AKU is learned to have blocked and confiscated all egg production dating from March 19 onwards when it was declared and the first case confirmed by AI in the country.
”In the beginning of this story there was a delayed reaction from the institutions involved because it was not believed to be a bird flu. We do not have a very clear elimination order, but we do have an order for the elimination / disposal of dead chickens. It leaves a lot of room for interpretation, but we have been verbally told… ‘‘,. says Andi Duka, general director of the plant.
According to the producers, the needs of the egg market are being covered through uninfected establishments, away from the Durrës area, or with imported eggs.
“What egg is produced, should not be marketed with our stamp, but even if it comes out it is an egg taken from uninfected establishments or imported. Eggs taken from these few remaining chickens are confiscated by AKU and traced. In a second they will be buried“, Says Duke.
Consumer concern, in addition to food safety, remains the price of this product in the market.
”Imports are aimed at reducing prices. We are short of about 700,000 grains a day and we will fill this vacuum through imports from EU countries until we repopulate herds of healthy birds and birds.”.
In Durrës alone, to date about 100 thousand eggs have been confiscated by AKU.
