Russia’s focus on an offensive in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions is “a tacit admission” that it is having difficulty holding more than one offensive front, the UK Ministry of Defense said.
Units that have suffered heavy losses have been forced to return to Russia and Belarus to be resupplied and reorganized, which is putting pressure on “Russia’s already overloaded logistics,” Britain said.
The Defense Ministry said Russian forces would likely compensate for the reduced ground maneuverability through massive artillery strikes and missile strikes.
Russia said on March 29 that it would reduce military activity around Kiev and Chernihiv and had previously said it would focus its military operations in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine and the United States have expressed skepticism about Russia’s commitment to withdraw troops.
Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
