A celebrity travel couple have been criticized by their online followers after sharing footage of a shark feeding just inches away from their three-year-old son.
Social media users condemned Australian “influencers” Elayna Carausu, 28, and Riley Whitelum, 37, as their “sensational” photos aboard a luxury yacht showed a shark feeding near their little boy’s feet.
Couple with hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram said they are on a seven-year voyage around the world, with their two young sons Darwin and Lenny.
Over the weekend Elayna sparked outrage on social media where Riley was seen feeding a shark as Lenny stood on the edge of the boat, a few inches away from the sea beast.
The little one was seen stepping back as the shark crashed into the bottom of the boat.
“Feeding the sharks from our houseboat,” Elayna commented on the photo.
“We had seen a lot from the bottom of the boat but nothing like that.”
Both users and biologists criticized the couple.
“Be careful, it is not worth a video to risk your family,” wrote one of them.
“Things like this can boomerang you, it’s not worth the rental clicks.”
A marine biologist wrote: “This is irresponsible. You are teaching sharks to contact humans for food. “Everyone knows that many accidents happen while feeding sharks.”
Another quoted: “This must be where the word ‘click-bait’ came from”, referring to the compound English word ‘click-bait’ which refers to the use of ‘impressive’ images to grab the attention of naive users. and consequently increase clicks on the network.
