Russian diplomat Dmitry Polyanskiy has stated today that a ceasefire is not possible at the moment in Ukraine, as it could use it as a moment to organize against Russia.
“Ukraine is undermining our efforts to open humanitarian corridors, so we do not think a ceasefire is a good option now.Said Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s first permanent representative to the United Nations.
Polyanskiy also said that a ceasefire would be just an opportunity for Ukrainian forces to regroup and organize more attacks.
Ukraine previously denied reaching an agreement with Russia on the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal steel plant in the southern city of Mariupol.
The deputy prime minister added that Ukraine had asked UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who will travel to Moscow on Tuesday, to act as the initiator and guarantor of any evacuation route from the plant.
