The works for the restoration of the tower in Preza Castle, which was damaged by the 2019 earthquake, have been completed. After two years of work with the financial support of the US Ambassadors Fund for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, the stone columns and masonry were rebuilt using the original stones that had collapsed during the earthquake.
During the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Yuri Kim said we must learn from the past and make money towards the future.
“It is wonderful when I see such a place, and it may seem as if it is just a wonderful land in Albania, which is the land of Skanderbeg and as you all know I am a great admirer of him. It is the land of Skanderbeg, but most of all it is the land of our children, it is the land of your children therefore we are very glad to be here together with the future, to take the best lessons from the past and continue to we move forward, same as this castle. If something falls apart, you can rebuild it and make it strong again. “The United States will be with you every step of the way, helping you build stone by stone, step by step.”said Yuri Kim.
The Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti called for awareness for the preservation of Albanian values.
“The value that connects the monument with the community will remain, it has been a long work, two years of work. “Maybe this would be an awareness for all of us how easy it can be to destroy your identity and how difficult it is to put it back in place.” said Elva Margariti.
Preza Castle is a tourist attraction with cultural and historical values that is visited by many foreigners during their stay in our country, from where it offers a view full of greenery.
