U.S. regulators have found that the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine is safe and effective.
This paves the way for it to become the third Covid-19 vaccine authorized in the US. The vaccine would be a more cost-effective alternative than the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and can be stored in a refrigerator, not at extreme temperatures like Pfizer.
Evidence found that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is generally 66% effective when moderate cases are involved. The company has agreed to provide 100 million doses to America by the end of June.
The UK, European Union and Canada have also ordered doses of the vaccine. Meanwhile 500 million doses have been ordered through the Covax scheme to supply the poorest nations.
