Vladimir Andonov, one of Vladimir Putin’s most notorious mercenaries, christened even as his “executioner”, is said to have been killed by a Ukrainian sniper.
The British media say that the 44-year-old from the Buryatia region of the Far East of Russia, was part of the infamous Wagner group of Russian mercenaries.
He is believed to have been shot dead while fighting in Kharkhiv, in eastern Ukraine. Nicknamed “Jeklati”, he allegedly earned it because of the brutal combat tactics he used during the fighting in Ukraine and in previous missions in Syria and Libya.
The Wagner Group operatives are all former paratroopers or special forces and are accused of committing war crimes across the globe. His death was first reported by the Russian publication Moskovsky Komsomolets, who wrote: – “The death of Vladimir Andonov, better known as Vaha, has been announced in Ukraine.”
He was killed during a reconnaissance mission along with a friend of his, most likely hit by a sniper. Andonov is believed to have been involved in the killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war, as well as in the massacres of civilians in Donbas.
The Ukrainian navy, meanwhile, claims that the Russian Black Sea Fleet has withdrawn more than 100 kilometers from the country’s shores in an attempt to evade the missile range following incessant attacks by Kiev forces.
The latest Ukrainian military report says efforts are being made to regain control of the northwestern Black Sea, off the coast of which the Russians had landed missile systems in Crimea and Kherson, respectively.
