The White House has a plan in place: Thousands of monkeypox vaccines will be distributed in the United States as part of a campaign to stop the outbreak.
Officials clarified that they are working to increase the number of tests and have expanded the group of people advised to be vaccinated.
Originally identified only in Africa, the virus has spread to the US and Europe with astonishing speed. So far 306 cases have been registered in the US and no deaths.
But local health authorities warn that the actual number of infected may be higher than that. Worldwide, over 4,700 cases have been reported in 49 countries. In the latest instruction, the US administration called for vaccinating anyone who believes they have been exposed to monkey pox.
This guide is mostly aimed at gay men, as most of the cases identified so far in America have been in the ranks of this community. The Department of Health will start distributing 56,000 doses of the vaccine – which deals with two doses separately – Jynneos which is manufactured by the Danish company, Bavarian Nordic.
The leprosy of monkeys does not spread easily among humans, but can be transmitted through skin contact, clothing or towels.
