Another 9-year school is added to the bouquet of new educational institutions opening their doors this September.
Designed by the well-known Italian architect, Stefano Boeri, the “Andrea Stefani” school, integrated with a preschool, will serve over 1,000 students from the community living in the area of Astir and Dogana.
The new school was visited by the mayor Erion Veliaj and the deputy of the SP, Paulin Sterkaj.
“The ‘Andrea Stefani’ school has an extremely dignified name and will also have a kindergarten and preschool.” said Veliaj.
As he called on parents to enroll their children in the nearest school, he stated that the residents’ request for educational institutions at the entrance gates of Tirana has already been resolved.
“The harmonization we have done to the educational institutions in each extreme of the unit; so also at “Don Bosco” with “Vaçe Zela” and “Kristo Frashëri” schools, also in Kodër Kamëz, with “Kennedy” and “Mother Teresa” schools, and at “Shqiponja” with “Andrea Stefani” school, plus two the others in the Astiri area that we are starting this year, we have practically accommodated the children of all the families who have lived over the years in the entrance gates of Tirana, such as Astiri and Lapraka”, he underlined.
The Mayor also commented on the decision to name the new school after the well-known journalist and publicist, Andrea Stefani.
Veliaj said that Andrea Stefani is a memory not only as a personality, but also for the times when real journalism was practiced in Albania.
“The school has a great name, the name of Andrea Stefani, a fellow fighter in the difficult battles of Albania. Those have been difficult years and Andrea Stefani has always reminded us that there were good journalists, who did not receive fines, did not open all portals to fine politicians and businesses, did not open all social networks to collect fines, called journalism. In Andrea’s time, he became a genuine journalist, an idealist journalist, where the journalist lived with a bordero, not with a bordero in the party, and another bordero in a business”. said Veliaj.
He stated that the focus of the Municipality of Tirana has been the liberation of the spaces occupied during the years of transition and their return to the community.
“Where we have had the opportunity to free up territory, such as this school, we have made sure to get a little yard for the children to play. Let’s create an inner courtyard, have a gym, make sure that we recover as much as we can from the public space in every area where we intervene”, emphasized Veliaj.
The Andrea Stefani 9-year-old school is part of the package of 40 new schools that have been added and are being added to Tirana, which will open their doors at the start of the new school year in September.
