The First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, has revealed that the war in Ukraine has made her nine-year-old son want to become a soldier.
In an interview with NBC, Zelenska said that now the only thing her son Kyrylo wants to do is martial arts and how to use a rifle.
The wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was on a visit to the US, where she asked for more weapons for Ukraine.
“Before the war, my son went to the folk dance ensemble. He played piano, learned English. But after the invasion of Russia, it is clear that he wants to be a soldier. I can’t turn it into arts and humanities.” she said.
This situation has greatly affected not only her children but all children in Ukraine, who have already lost an important part of their childhood.
“What I really want to ensure is that my son’s childhood comes back to him and that he enjoys his life to the fullest”said Zelenska.
During a 15-minute speech to the US Congress, she presented photos and videos of Ukrainian children who have been killed or injured during the war.
One of the images included was 4-year-old Liza Dmytriyeva, who was killed in an airstrike in the central-western town of Vinnytsia.
“We want every father and every mother to be able to say to their child: Go to sleep peacefully. There will be no more airstrikes, no more missile attacks. Is this too much to wish for? But unfortunately, the war is not over, the terror continues”she said, according to the BBC.
At the same time, the first lady of Ukraine asked for more weapons to use in the defense of their lives and not to wage war on someone else’s land.
