The young man who stabbed to death the Egyptian student outside the university after she rejected his marriage proposal will be executed on live television, a judge ruled today.
The terrible murder of Naira Ashraf outside her university in northern Egypt by Mohamed Adel, 21, shocked the community last month.
Adel was found guilty of the incident and on July 6 he was sentenced to death.
But in an unusual move, the Egyptian court has asked parliament to allow live televising of the execution to discourage such crimes from happening in the future.
The verdict is still subject to appeal, and defense lawyer Farid El-Deeb said that will do it soon.
El-Deeb is one of the most popular lawyers in Egypt, as he was the defense minister of former president Hosni Mubarak.
