Prison inmates in Turkey have burned mattresses in the past to protest the conditions.
Several fire trucks were sent to the jail, the Anadolu State Agency reported.
The HaberTurk broadcaster said none of the detainees were in serious condition.
According to the report, prison staff initially tried to put out a fire that broke out in one of the wards, but were forced to call firefighters after it went out of their control.
The prisoners were evacuated to another isolation area, he said.
Relatives and friends of the prisoners gathered at the entrance of the prison for news about their loved ones.
