Several Turkish journalists gathered in Diyarbakir to protest in solidarity with their 16 colleagues who were arrested by a Turkish court, saying it was an attempt to silence “free media”.
“Our colleagues were detained because of their journalistic activity and during the interrogation in the prosecutor’s office yesterday we saw once again a scenario known to us. “They questioned our friends entirely based on the news they did, the programs they did, the footage they shot.”says journalist Beritan Canözer.
“The accusations made by the prosecutor and the court against our friends are baseless and will all be refuted“, Emphasizes Bilal Gundem.
“With all the pressures and impositions that have been made to our colleagues and we have a goal and that is to give the message. You can not shut us up. “Pressures on the free press from the past, and what is happening now, have always aimed to prevent society from learning the truth.” says Rosa Metina.
Sixteen arrested Turkish journalists are said to be linked to pro-Kurdish media. Awaiting trial and charged with belonging to a “terrorist organization”, according to a lawyer.
